That is the number of photos it takes to fill my 4 gig memory card. I can hardly believe that I took that many (even more, the ones I deleted!), but combing through it has brought back a flood of great memories, and some reflection as I near the end of my South East Asia segment. Jenn and I spent 2 more fantastic days at Angkor Wat, including sunrise over Angkor, and a hot air balloon ride! Hence why I have taken so many photos. We stayed in Seim Reap for Thanksgiving, and had thai food for dinner... I must say, I was surprised at how upset I was about wanting a turkey dinner. But there was none to be found.
We then headed to the brilliant soft sands of Sihanoukville, on Cambodia's coast. Bumming around here just feels great, lazy days will with books and sunshine, and nights of happy hour beers ($.25!) and meeting other travellers. We have formed a gang with two english guys and a german couple that we end up bar hopping with all night. Tomorrow the gang will celebrate Jenn's 24th birthday, which will prove to be a wild night, I'm sure.
Being just one stop away from our last destination is giving rise to a lot of new feelings. First of all, whether or not I will be able to fly out of Bangkok is a question, since currently protesters are camping out in the airport, refusing to budge until the new prime minister steps down. I'm also growing more excited and more nervous about Australia... there is almost no way for me to prepare anything, but I wish that I could line up a job and an apartment now, so I can just look forward to it, instead of being concerned about being homeless. I also feel an intense attachment to Asia, and all of it's absurdly wonderful things, like tuk tuks and noodle stands and happy school children and gloriously perfect beaches and so many wonderful friends. It's been so excellent to me, to us, that I can hardly bear the thought of leaving it... only dreams of good cheese and wine motivate me to move on. Of course, depending on world politics, I might not have to leave anytime soon. I'll keep you posted!
