The first day in Hong Kong was a spontaneous whirlwind of activity. I teamed up with a Dutch couple and girl from Chile and walked through Hong Kong, taking the central escalator, the longest escalator tract in the world, and we took a tram up the rest of the way to Victoria Peak. Monsoon rains promptly hit, and we were soaked walking back to our hostel, includeing my phone, camera and ipod. Well, not so much the camera. Last night, I tried to dry everything off, but the phone didn't power up, and the ipod's click wheel died a slow death last night, even though it still turns on. I will probably try to buy a cheap phone today, and I will hang on to the ipod as sometimes these things miraculosly fix themselves by drying out more. I guess I sort of expected this to happen, but not on my very first day.
Today, Izzie (the Chilean) and I will go to Lantau Island and see a giant buddha statue, then depending on the time, return for a little afternoon shopping where maybe I can solve my phone issue. I am still really trying to not get sick. I think I will need some wonton soup!
